Habits
It is derived from the Latin word "Habitus" which means "State of Being" or "Condition". It can be defined as a tendency or acquired mode of behaviour which defines the mindset and character of a person. In English "Clothing" is the oldest meaning of habit and had nothing to do with the things a person does in a regular way. But these days this meaning is considered only for phrases like "nun's habit, monk's habit, etc ". A habit expert "Gretchen Rubin" writes in his book "Better than Before" about happines achieved through habits, where he describes habits and its types based on both outer and inner expectations which leads to the path of success.
Good habits & Bad Habits
Not all habits are beneficial to us. It’s very important to differentiate between good habits and bad habits. By, doing this a person can build good habits that bring positive results and break bad habits that destroys a person. Good habits are those repetitive actions or behaviors a person want to repeat. They have positive physical, emotional, or psychological consequences. Bad habits are those actions a person repeat that have negative consequences. Some bad habits are harmless, while others can have a deeper, long-term impact. Many of our habits are formed without us even realizing it. Our brains go into autopilot. This can make it difficult to know which of our habits are bad or good. To determine whether a habit is good or bad, think about the effects of the habit like:What are the physical impacts of this habit?, Is this habit negatively affecting my physical well-being?, How is this habit affecting my mental well-being?, Do I feel like I have control over my habit? Am I caught in a spiral doing something I don’t want to do? etc. Hence, by asking these questions a person can know which one to be considered a good habit and which one to be bad.
